I read an article (and listened to its corresponding podcast) by Dan Waldschmidt the other day that has been ringing in my head ever since. Titled, “What Doesn’t Matter,” Dan writes,
“So what if it hasn’t been done before. Be the first. So what if you get it wrong a few times. Reinvent yourself. So what if you don’t have a college degree. Be curious. You’ll learn more…”
He continues on with a whole host of other “So What”s and then concludes with,
“The rest of the whats are just excuses”
How true! We spend so much of our time obsessing over how life is too hard, how we have too much to do, why we can’t do this, why we can’t do that. Things that are going to happen to us are going to happen to us regardless of how we feel about them. We’d do much better to just roll with the punches. X happened. So what? Move on. How do you react? That’s really all that matters. “Where do I go from here?” is the only question. There is nothing else.
So, that’s how I begin my day this morning…by saying, “So what?” So what if I’m not making as much money as I would like to, so what if I only have a few days before my life gets ridiculously hectic, so what if I have so much to do today that I had to start at 3:30am. So what! Now, it’s time to get down to business.
